gal-dem and Acast announce the launch of new podcast series Reclaimed & Rewritten

2021.12.07

This engrossing — and at times shocking — new series aims to uncover the truth surrounding the the 1921 Tulsa Massacre

Reclaimed & Rewritten, a six-part serial podcast unearthing the mysteries and the stories behind the devastating Tulsa Massacre, is the latest show to join the Acast Creator Network. Produced by gal-dem, the award-winning media publication run by women and non-binary people of colour, the new series will be hosted, distributed and monetised by creator-first podcast companyAcast.

Reclaimed & Rewritten will launch on December 7, with critic and writer Clarkisha Kent examining the lead up to the horrific event — guiding listeners through each episode to unravel and dispel the myths that saw the state-sanctioned massacre morph over time into what many now know as the demolition of ‘Black Wall Street’.

The podcast will feature voices from descendants of survivors, politicians, historians, and academics from both the UK and US, who will help listeners dig up what has been lost and buried over the past 100 years — and what parallels we have in today’s society with regards to state violence and racism.

As part of the Acast Creator Network, Reclaimed & Rewritten will be available across all podcast listening platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Amazon, Overcast, and more. The podcast will also be strengthened by Acast’s range of monetisation options — which include premium ad products available exclusively via the Acast Marketplace and branded content.

A spokesperson for gal-dem said: “We began our partnership with Acast with the launch of Growing Up with gal-dem and we’re now collaborating to tell an important story with the Reclaimed & Rewritten series. It’s crucial that as many people as possible can learn about this forgotten history, and we hope to do just that with this podcast.”

Clarissa Pabi, Acast’s Senior Content Development Manager, UK, said: “gal-dem is an integral voice in podcasting, archiving through audio the often untold stories and experiences of people of colour from marginalised genders — and redressing inequality. Exploring and going beyond what we have come to call the “Black Wall Street”, Reclaimed & Rewritten is a landmark launch in gal-dem’s podcasting journey, a story forcibly relegated to the shadows of history now told with a new perspective exploring community, legacies and the parallels between the UK and US 100 years on.”

For brands and advertisers looking to work with Reclaimed & Rewritten or any of gal-dem’s other podcasts, opportunities are available exclusively through the Acast Marketplace.
